  • "I stumbled upon Dr. Hovey last December when I was searching for a healing process for and old back/neck injury flair-up along with a long bout with acid reflux and difficulty digesting any food. It was through a google seach for healing modalities that I discovered "Craniosacral" therapeutic benefits. So, I searched the Sacramento area to find a practitioner and left a message for Dr. Diane Hovey.

She returned my call shortly. We discussed what "Craniosacral" practice can do for various physical problems and when she mentioned Scoliosis I booked an appointment for my daughter, Ruby suffering from a 36 degree S curve that was diagnosed at UCLA when she was a preteen.

I took her to see Dr. Hovey first because she suffered chronic back pain for years. I waited in the waiting area and at the end of her first session, Dr. Hovey called me into the room.

Ruby was seated on the table and Dr. Hovey asked her to bend forward so I could see her back vertebrae. I wasn't surprised. I was shocked! How could this be? To me it was a complete miracle to see my daughter's back completely straightened. My mind was having a hard time accepting what I was seeing so I had to ask a few more times if I could look. Yes! It was true and I am forever grateful for Dr. Hovey's beautiful healing spirit and expertise.

I went to see Dr. Hovey for myself a month or so later and experienced amazing relief both physically and emotionally from her treatments. I am recommending her to anyone who suffers any type of physical ailment.

I learned so much from Dr. Hovey at each one of my appointments as she talks about what she is doing and how things interact.
I'm so glad I found Dr. Hovey that December day. She changed our lives and I am forever grateful."

  • "Miracle Worker that is what I told Diane she was, at my last visit with her. Two weeks before I was having extreme pain in my lower back. It was very hard to even walk. She was able to pin point the area that was sore on my left leg and a few other spots. After my session with her that day, I have not had a problem since. I highly recommend her gentle healing touch!"

  • "Thank you so much for the Unexpected Sweet Surprise from our session yesterday. What an incredible feeling--the pure joy of increased overall freedom of movement. Hooray! I admire your unique combination of experience, training, & skills, combined with your sincere commitment to finding solutions for improved health & well-being. Every breast cancer survivor & especially mastectomy patients need to know about you, Diane. You've helped me breathe new life into my overall body. It's amazing. You've skillfully "re-introduced" the natural co-ordination & integration of my muscles, cartilage, & ribs. I feel like my chest is now a living, breathing, moving integrated part of me again, instead of a stiff "zoned-out" area. My Doctor will definitely be impressed. Thank you!"

  • "After more than 20 years of treatment for back pain and headaches, I finally know and am addressing the source of my pain thanks to Diane. I was taking large amounts of ibuprofen just to get through my day and was having debilitating muscle spasms in my neck about twice a month. After my first treatment with Diane, I didn't have a neck spasm for three months! My daily use of pain relievers has ceased and I've begun to work on improving my fitness instead of just trying to keep from hurting myself. The cause that was overlooked by my medical doctors and chiropractors all those years was a significant leg length discrepancy. The simple correction of the body lean caused by this discrepancy has changed everything about the way I move and experience life. In many ways, I feel like Diane is the first one who really saw me in my entirety and not just as an assembly of problematic parts.

Diane provides a rare combination of scientific expertise and intuitive insight. She has offered both immediate relief and pathways to long term resolution of long term problems. I would highly recommend Diane to anyone who wants to live more joyously in the body."

  • "I wish I'd connected with Diane six months ago! I had no idea what a difference manual lymphatic drainage and loosening scar tissue adhesions would make. Night and day.

As I began to heal and rehabilitate my shoulder after surgery, I didn't know how much better I could really get, and my doctors weren't really talking to me about it either. Since there was nothing severe about my post-surgery symptoms, my doctors considered me healed. Done. In a way, I thought I was lucky to have only the minor inconveniences I had: minor lymphedema, limited range of motion and the standard level of nerve discomfort that comes with a full axillary lymph node dissection. But it all started to frustrate me. After six months, I still couldn't comfortably reach behind me to support a bar bell, and I began to search for solutions. I wasn't ready to accept that my minor symptoms would leave me permanently sidelined. I had the luck to stumble on Diane when another breast cancer survivor suggested I find someone who specialized in manual lymph drainage. I figured it was worth a try. When I found out Diane could also help loosen scar tissue adhesions, things only got better. After about five sessions with Diane, my flexibility and range of motion have improved dramatically - enough to where I can comfortably reach behind my shoulders to hold a bar bell, and enough to where my bench press is coming slowly back up to pre-surgery weight. I am also back to doing push ups!

I think one of the best things about this combination of therapies is that I just feel more like my pre-surgery me. All the small motions that were challenges before are becoming just normal movements again. Talk about a confidence builder.

I hope other women in my position - who are "lucky" to be healed enough from breast cancer surgery, but sense there is something better out there - get a chance to work with Diane, and truly recover their strength and flexibility."

  • "I was suffering from chronic pain in the right side of my neck and tingling in my right arm for six or more weeks. It prevented me from using my hand or arm for any length of time. My doctor told me it might be carpal tunnel syndrome and gave me a wrist brace and a prescription for muscle relaxes. This did nothing to relieve the symptoms, let alone the cause of my pain. Diane identified the origin of my pain and after only two sessions, I had complete relief. I am confidant that I would still be hurting if it wasn't for Diane's amazing healing method. This was in 2007 and I have not experienced the discomfort since my appointment with Diane. I am grateful and a true fan of her talent and gift."

  • "Diane came recommended to me by a friend who had achieved excellent results; she sang her praises so often that when the pain in my left foot became so bad that each step I took was painful I decided I would give her a try. I had been having problems off and on for about a year, I tried the store bought orthotics and the chiropractor but nothing was helping.

I was impressed on my first visit with the thorough examination that Diane conducted; we talked about what other areas of my body where giving me pain. I have had a long standing right knee problem resulting from an accident when I was 16 years old and have a 47 year history of problems and two knee surgeries with the knee. I was told after the last surgery that I should just plan on a knee replacement as my next knee surgery, the surgeon said "I have done all I can for the knee".

Since starting treatment with Diane several things have occurred, the left foot is pain free; the right knee that was destined for replacement is pain free and working very well. In addition the low back pain that has plagued me for years has diminished greatly and is only an occasional problem. Also the rib cage pain that started with shingles three years ago is also gone.

Diane's knowledge of the human body is remarkable, her approach to treatment is not just to alleviate the pain she also educates you and increases your awareness of your body, how it works and what will work best for you to be pain free.

I have recommended Diane to many people and without hesitation would recommend her again and again, she is a truly gifted healer."

  • "Diane, I wanted to get back to you to thank you for the treatments which have helped extensively. As you know, I have had serious neck and shoulder problems for many years. After my very first visit, I found myself getting in the car and driving without pain in my neck. I was absolutely astounded. During subsequent treatments, I have always been extremely grateful that you have spent the time needed to resolve the pain issues as they became more complex with a hip/pelvis injury sustained just before the holidays. This has also been resolved with the careful, painstaking method you have used. I would definitely characterize the massage treatments as therapeutic and they require the patient to actively participate - indicating the level of pain at the time and the improvement as the treatment continues. I first went to see you on the recommendation of another masseuse who uses the same method. When she suggested you because you were a neck specialist - I knew that I definitely had to give it a try. I am very happy with the results I have had. Thank you!!"

  • "I contacted Diane because I had pain in my left knee and rotator cuff and I had just heard about Reconnective Healing and I was interested in giving this a try. I selected her from other Reconnective Healing practitioners because of the four providing this service in Sacramento she also had training and experience in many other healing techniques.

One thing I realized right way and had confidence in, is that Diane can draw from any of her different trainings to get results. Since working with her I can reach much further behind my back with both of my arms and have more flexibility in my right hand where I had surgery five years ago. She also noticed (thru my posture) that my right leg was shorter than my left leg and x-rays confirmed about a 9mm difference.

What I like about Diane is her experience and great knowledge in many healing techniques. Also, her knowledge in muscles and how they all interrelated and that your hurting might be related to a muscle not directly associated with the hurt.

I have been very pleased with Diane's work and have recommended her to others. She would also let you know if she has done as much as she can do to get the results you want."

  • "I sought help from Diane because by the summer of 2009 I had lost the use of my left arm. My upper arm was immobile and painful beyond words. Every medical option failed to help and their alternative was to cut me. I felt a non-invasive and non-surgical approach was a better path. It was with much trepidation I called Diane Hovey for help. In the six-months we have worked together Diane has been patient and forged a path of working the arm, neck, and whole body. I am now able to raise my arm, open and close the refrigerator, car doors, cabinet doors, wash my hair, lift grocery bags, lay flat on my stomach and have my arm open up - just for starters. What I like best about working with Diane is that she works on the whole body, treating it as an inter-related unit. Her strengths include her ability to zero in on the injured immobile area and lift-up the muscles so that they work again. I have recommended Diane to others and will continue to do so."

  • "I have had back and neck pain for years. [my HMO] only offered me treatment for the symptoms rather than the problem. Pain management, pain pills, and physical therapy all failed to relieve my suffering, and actually made it worse. They insisted I had fibromyalgia, which I do not. I finally found therapy outside of [their system]that is proving to be successful. My muscles are releasing and this is the first relief I have had in the past 8 years.

In addition, I broke my ankle about 30-years ago and worked with a sports medicine therapist to rebuild it. They strengthened it, but did nothing for the pain and range of motion. Diane has reduced the pain, improved my freedom of movement, and it no longer goes out on me.

Through Diane's application of NeuroMuscular therapy I have gotten tremendous relief in nine visits over the past three-and-a-half months.

  • "Diane is my healer in more ways than just fixing my body. I was diagnosed several years ago with spinal stenosis and a torn meniscus in my knee. I was very active prior to the injuries, but the pain made me feel old and fragile although I am only 56 years old. I tried physical therapy, cortisone injections, and acupuncture but nothing worked. The final choices presented to me all involved surgery. The procedures and possible complications gave me pause.

My husband urged me to see Diane before proceeding with surgery. Her first few treatments were amazing but the pain would return a few days later. Diane observed how my fallen arches placed undue strain on my ankles, and ultimately my knees. She suggested I try orthotics to correct the structural problem that tissue work could not reverse. She also visited my office to see how the furniture worked with my body and recommended I get a new office chair. After making these small changes, surgery was no longer necessary, and I only see her for maintenance sessions. The pain is gone!

I also highly recommend her fascia release and lymphatic drainage treatments. The relaxation achieved is transcendental and my tissues feel rejuvenated and alive.

It is always so very peaceful and I feel completely cared for when I go for therapy. Diane has created a Zen mood in her office and her gentle and loving approach is so needed and appreciated. She offers her clients a private, comfortable room with aromatherapy, soft lighting and mystical music to enhance the experience. I leave feeling completely refreshed emotionally, physically and spiritually with each healing. I thank God to have found Diane."

  • "I first met Dr. Diane Hovey at a health fair where we only spoke briefly. When my back went into spasm I could not bend over to pick things up, even from a low table, I had difficulty getting into and out of the car and walking was difficult. I called Diane and she switched clients around so that I could come in immediately. In that visit she analyzed what was going on by observing how I moved and went to work relieving the problem. After that session, I knew she was the therapist for me. She is tenacious in finding the issues and dealing with them. I particularly like that this is not a passive experience, Diane makes me an active participant in the process. We work together in a "seek and destroy" approach in which we locate the underlying issues that often create pain in a different part of my body. She has also shown me what to watch for and exercises I can do at home to help my body heal. I am very pleased with her work and have recommended her to many friends who have later called to tell me about their own positive experiences. Diane has the skills to help us get our bodies in shape and keep them that way. I am a firm believer in her methods and the results speak for themselves."

  • "I suffered with a problem with my left foot for over a year, seeing a Kaiser podiatrist, as well as a physical therapist outside of Kaiser & had no resolution. One visit with Diane Hovey put me down a different & very productive path. Her particular combination of education (Physiology, Psychology, & Engineering), experience, and tenacity to solve problems has been a godsend. Bottom line: it all worked, after I met with her & followed her suggestions."

  • "After I broke my tibia and kneecap in March of this year, I thought I would be destined to walk with a limp for the rest of my life. After only 3 sessions with Diane, I feel like I am making progress. I went to 11 physical therapy sessions with my medical insurance coverage and didn't feel any different from the 1st session to my 11th session. She has awakened muscles surrounding the break. I am no longer "clumping" along and feel like I am improving daily."

  • "When I first started my physical therapy two years ago, I was having stress-related stiff necks. After several treatments, my stiffness and soreness went away and have not returned. I still have all-over hands-on treatment occasionally to keep my neck flexible.

Then a few months ago I started having leg pain upon lying down. I would get up several times a night to walk around to relieve the pain.

Dr. Hovey isolated the origins of the pain in the muscles surrounding my right hip. After each treatment it would be a week before the pain returned. Then it would be two weeks. I am now almost pain free, but will continue until it stabilizes completely.

Along with the therapy, she gave me stretching exercises with hands-on illustrations. I have always exercised, but at age 76 I tried to keep up with what I always did and over-extended. With her personal diagrams, there is no danger of this occurring again."

  • "A friend recommended Diane to me a few years ago. At the time, my entire left leg was suffering from the effects of a crushed foot to the point that it was withering and causing me to walk with an odd gait, and my job was adding on the hurt. I was weary at first, due to previous experiences with other therapies, but was immediately impressed with Diane as she was able to gauge my aches within moments- including the pains I did not mention. In less than 2 months, my leg had improved dramatically! So much so that we were able to work on my other issues. To this day, I recommend Diane to anyone I know who suffers physical discomfort."

  • "A week ago today, on April 28, 2009, my knee was in such pain that childbirth seemed like a cakewalk. I limped around trying to function but my knee buckled and I fell to the ground. Pain shot up my leg and into my lower back. Even though I had endured this pain for two months, I knew I couldn't go on. A friend recommended Diane Hovey who helped her to walk when she was on crutches.

I barely made it to Diane's office. She set to work right away stressing the need for communication so as not to allow me to go beyond a pain level that would promote healing. Diane introduced me to each muscle and ligament by name and explained how each functioned together with the others. She gently massaged and maneuvered each one coaxing it back to its natural position. This methodical, healing approach brought immediate relief. By the end of the session I could walk again. After one more session to ensure that the muscles didn't tighten up again, I am completely back to normal. Why in the world did I wait for two months? I won't do that again.

I highly recommend Diane Hovey to anyone who suffers from joint pain. Her personal touches coupled with her professional capabilities make for a mystical healing experience. It's almost like magic.

  • "My foot was in a cast for six-weeks after bunion surgery. My doctor sent me to a physical therapist to restore joint mobility. The experience of the first PT session was incredibly painful. After leaving the PT office I called Diane to see if she could help. That evening, she slowly and carefully worked with my foot. After that one painless session, my toe had almost full mobility. The PT, at my second and last session with her, was stunned at the progress."

  • "I have suffered from chronic back pain for the last 18 months, along with sporadic neck pain. I sought relief through traditional medicine for my back about one year ago. I had 3 corticosteroid epidurals, one each in November and December 2007, and in January 2008. However, 3 months after my last epidural the pain returned with more intensity. I was not considered a good candidate for more steroidal epidurals, because I had limited pain relief and concerns of possible side effects with over use. My options were to do nothing, take pain killers, or invasive surgery. These were not viable options to me. I was referred by a female friend at my gym who had positive results with Diane.

Diane has treated me in seven sessions. Along with neuro-muscular therapy, Diane provided me with easy tools (controlled stretches/movements) to reduce pain and assist in my recovery. My neck pain was eliminated in one session. My back pain was more persistent, but, after six sessions I feel good again. Diane has put me back on track."

  • "Juvenile Linear Scleroderma invaded my body at age six, and spread for about eight years, finally becoming inactive at age 14. I have spent well over 25 years coping with the resulting foot and leg pain and very limited ankle mobility. The resulting one-half-inch leg length difference has brought with it lower back pain and sciatica issues.

With a single visit, Diane relaxed and softened the scarred skin and tight connective tissue holding my foot out of alignment for so many years. Using several different healing techniques, she gently released overworked muscles and ligaments, and began to restore the natural alignment of my lower body. Muscles which had atrophied were again awakened and began to function as intended. The relief was immediate and lasted several weeks. The sciatica pain has not returned.

A subsequent visit four weeks later further reduced the negative effects of the scar tissue and allowed additional ease of movement. I am now able to walk and stand for greater periods of time and with less pain. My body feels more balanced and my ankle more stable.

Diane has a rare healing gift. Her gentle touch and calm manner also made the sessions relaxing and enjoyable experiences."
